Kreeri public park turns into garbage dumping site

Kreeri, Jan 27 : Despite being declared a model village a few years ago the public park near bus stand in this held Kashmir area has been turned into a garbage dumping site.

Fencing around the park has got damaged and the fountain inside it is non functional.

Heaps of garbage can be seen lying inside the park. The weeds and the uneven grass spread all along the park present an ugly picture.

The fountain installed in the middle of the park is non-functional for several years and there is no water connection to maintain the park. Residents are also aghast over the non-availability of lights in the park.

“If the fountain is made functional it will add beauty to the park. In the absence of lights there is every possibility of the park being used by the drug addicts,” said a resident.

According to locals the park is of great importance not only for common people but scores of patients and their attendants, who visit this park owing to scarcity of space in the sub district hospital Kreeri.

“Due to the non-maintenance of this park people including scores of patients have no option but to wander here and there,” locals said.

"People throw waste including polythene etc in it and dogs are seen resting in it the whole day," they added.

They said the drain adjacent to the park in a bad condition, the obnoxious smell of which has made the life of the residents miserable. "It is difficult to breathe near the park now as pollution has destroyed it," said Riyaz Ahmad a shopkeeper.
