Srinagar, Feb 1 :
Residents of Mandir Bagh at Baghat-e-Barzulla here are up in arms against the
authorities for failing to overcome drainage problem in the area.
A
delegation from the area said in absence of regular cleaning over the years, the
drainage system there has been rendered defunct.
The problem is
compounded as the drainage water seeps into many residential houses causing
immense inconvenience to the inmates.
They said the drain was constructed
nearly three decades ago.
“Ironically, in absence of regular cleaning,
the drain has been choked. Sewage water from the drain has inundated lanes and
by-lanes causing immense inconvenience to us,” they said.
The sewage
water has seeped into foundation of houses and caused extensive damage to it.
“Due to water-logging we cannot venture out of our houses. People particularly
children, women and aged face immense problems. We many a times appealed the
authorities to get the drain cleaned but out requests met with deaf ears,” they
said.
The residents appealed the Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Baseer
Ahmad Khan to intervene into the matter. “We make a fervent appeal to DC
Srinagar to direct the concerned authorities to restore the drain and undertake
repairs of roads and lanes there,” they added.
