Srinagar, Jan 30 :
What could turn out to be a major setback for innovative minds in held Jammu and
Kashmir, government has failed to give awards to them despite Chief Minster Omar
Abdullah instituting Talent Search-cum-Innovation Award(TSLA)’ three years
ago.
Officials in the department said that State government had setup
the award in 2010 after a team of National Innovation Foundation Ahmedabad met
Chief Minster Omar Abdullah and apprised him about the scores of innovations of
the Valley youth, “ The Chief Minister then ordered for formation of award which
he said would be given on January 26 every year,” an official said.
A
few days after Chief Minster’s announcement, General Administrative Department
(GAD) vide order no 37-GAD of 2010 instituted TSLA.
According to the GAD
order, the purpose of the award is to help JK to become an innovative and
creative society by scouting, spawning and sustaining un-aided grassroots
technological innovation, creative ideas and the use of unique traditional
knowledge from the informal sector of the state. “It also seeks to unearth
ability of creative community of individual in rural and urban areas and helping
in building value chain around them,” Government order states.
Under
TSIA state had announced cash award of Rs one lakh each, a gold medal and a
citation for five best innovations every year, however on contrary Government
has not given award to any of the innovators in three years.
The
innovative talent of Kashmiris can be better learnt from National Innovation
Foundation who has been helping us from time to time. They are all praise for
us, but it hurts when our own government discourages us,” innovators
said.
