Srinagar, Jan 21 : The Industrial Estate at Rangreth is reeling under darkness as Power
Development Department (PDD) is resorting to unscheduled power cuts.
A
group of unit holders of the Industrial Estate said the unscheduled power cuts
has led to drastic decrease in production.
“Our production depends wholly
on power supply. Due to erratic power supply, we are incurring huge financial
losses. Production in most of the industrial units here has decreased by nearly
fifty per cent due to erratic power supply,” the unit holders said.
“The frequent curtailment of power is giving us a tough time. We have to face
power cuts for nearly twenty hours on an average daily,” said a unit
holder.
Some of the unit holders are planning to close down their units
in view of heavy losses due to power shortage.
“Some mechanical
operations are complex. It takes hours together to raise the temperature of a
particular machine. And when it is hot enough to start operations, there is a
sudden power cut rendering hours’ process useless in a blink of second. It can
also damage costly machines,” they said.
The aggrieved unit holders said
they had time and again raised the issue with the PDD
officials.
“Unfortunately our requests met with deaf ears. Despite
paying power fees as per the meter reading regularly, we are facing power cuts.
Ironically, the Jammu based Industrial estates enjoy uninterrupted power supply
even in winter,” the unit holders said.
