Handwara, Jan 24 : The absence of doctors in district hospital Handwara triggered
protest from the parents and attendants of a three-year-old who died for want of
medicare.
Parents of three-year-old Adil Farid Khan said their kid
was was not feeling well and they took him to district hospital
Handwara.
“Believe me and my Almighty, I searched for doctors in
pediatric ward, emergency and casualty but there was no pediatrician. After an
hour a doctor came and by the time my son had died,” said Farid Khan.
“I
want action against doctors or hospital management. I just want that no such
death of a kid takes place here no parent should lose their children due to such
negligence,” said Farid.
“Where were the doctors of this district
hospital?” questioned Khan.
Sobbing mother of the kid, Jamsheeda
Begum, said: “We took baby to the hospital around 2 AM and were shocked to found
that no pediatrician was available in the hospital. Had the baby received the
treatment on time, his life could have been saved.”
She said that the
pediatric ward of the hospital was without a doctor and went to few other wards
in search of doctor but could not find any. “What is the point in having a
pediatric ward at the hospital, when doctors do not remain present.
By
remaining absent from their duties, the doctors are playing with the lives of
infants and babies,” said dejected mother of the deceased baby. She demanded
stern action against the hospital authorities.
The hospital management,
however, denied the charge and said that the baby had died before reaching the
hospital.
“A pediatrician was called in who found the baby brought dead.
We are still investigating the matter,” said Dr Muneer Ahmad, the deputy CMO
Kupwara.
